Cybersecurity can seem like an intimidating world to step into. This is especially true if you are a new business or wanting to learn more about cybersecurity. At Aspis, we are here to help. In this week’s blog, we are going to cover 5 basic cybersecurity tips that everyone should know about cybersecurity.
1) Most of Your Problems Will Come From Human Error
Our first cybersecurity tip is one of the easiest ways for hackers to gain access to your company is through your actual employees. One way they could do this is through a process called phishing. Phishing is when a fraudulent link is sent to an employee, usually through email. If this link is clicked, the hackers will be able to access things within your company. Phishing attacks can range from incredibly obvious to extremely hard to detect. One way to prepare for this is to send out fake phishing tests emails and see if your employees would click on them. Here at Aspis, we offer services and training to prevent phishing attacks at your company. Head to our website to learn more and get more cybersecurity tips!
2) Any Size Business Could be a Target
Many people believe that only large businesses would be targets of cyber-attacks. This is simply not the case. In fact, hackers may target smaller businesses because they tend not to be as protected. Even if you are just a small startup, investing in cybersecurity is very important.
3) Keep Devices up to Date
Nobody likes it when their devices keep hounding them about the newest update. If you’re anything like me, you tend to generally ignore these notifications. “Remind me later.” However, this can pose a massive risk for you or your company. Keeping your hardware and software up to date will greatly reduce the chances of a cyber-attack. For example, Apple’s most recent iPhone update was purely based on upping security and preventing breaches on their devices.
4) Measure the Cost vs Risk
Some companies may delay enabling certain key cybersecurity measures because it seems expensive. However, when it comes to the security of your business, it’s much better to be safe than sorry. Many companies offer different-sized packaged deals for cybersecurity measures. Remember, even basic protections like firewalls and VPNs are better than nothing. It’s much better to invest and not need the services than to not invest and have your company compromised.
5) Nothing is completely effective
If one company was able to prevent all cybercrime 100% of the time, everyone else would go out of business. Until that situation is a reality, there will always be a chance that you may experience cyber-attacks. The recent T-Mobile data breach shows that even the largest companies with the biggest budgets can be hit. (By the way, you can read our blog about that here.) It is best to do your research about what services are best for your company and invest what you can. Here at Aspis, not only do we provide cybersecurity protection, but we also provide services that could help you AFTER an attack occurs. Head to our website to learn more about our services.
